Dr. Gandolfi’s Case Studies
From Twenty-Three Years of Daily Vomiting to a New Beginning:
A Wellness Chiropractic Case Study
Patient Profile: Adult female
Primary Reason for Visit: Multiple chronic health complaints with declining quality of life.
Medical History:
The patient presented with a lengthy history of chronic health challenges, including:
Daily vomiting for approximately 23 years
Shortness of breath
Asthma
Lower back pain
Shoulder pain
Knee pain
Diaphragm pain
Diabetes
History of cancer involving the female reproductive system
Open-heart surgery in 1999
She reported having consulted numerous medical physicians over many years. According to the patient, despite extensive evaluations and treatment, no clear explanation for many of her symptoms had been identified. At the time of presentation, she was taking nine prescription medications and reported that exploratory surgery had been discussed as a possible next step.
She was referred to Gandolfi Chiropractic after encouragement from her daughter, who believed there might be another conservative option to explore.
History
When the patient first arrived at our office, she described feeling as though her health had gradually taken away nearly every aspect of her daily life.
She explained that pain had become constant.
Simple household chores had become difficult.
Leaving the house required significant effort.
She described her quality of life in one sentence:
“I had no quality of life because I had no life.”
Among all of her health concerns, one symptom had become particularly overwhelming.
For twenty-three consecutive years, she reported vomiting every day.
She had adapted to living with limitations that had gradually become her normal.
Prior to visiting our office, she had previously received musculoskeletal chiropractic care but reported no meaningful improvement in her overall health.
Before beginning care, we explained that chiropractic does not treat asthma, diabetes, vomiting, cancer, heart disease, or any of her diagnosed medical conditions.
Instead, our objective was to evaluate the integrity of her neurospinal system and identify objective evidence of neurospinal dysfunction that could interfere with healthy communication between the brain and body.
Initial Findings
A comprehensive neurological and chiropractic examination demonstrated significant objective findings throughout the neurospinal system.
Clinical findings included:
Significant neurospinal dysfunction involving multiple spinal regions including involvement in the sympathetic nervous impacting the digestive function.
Marked muscular hypertonicity
Pelvic imbalance
Reduced spinal mobility
Areas of neurological and biomechanical stress affecting overall spinal function
As with every comprehensive wellness examination, our evaluation extended beyond the location of her pain.
Because neurological communication begins in the brain and travels through the spinal cord before reaching every organ, muscle, and tissue of the body, our focus remained on identifying areas of measurable dysfunction throughout the entire neurospinal system rather than limiting care to one painful region.
Care Plan
A corrective wellness chiropractic program utilizing NeuroSpinal Rehabituation® was recommended.
The goals of care included:
Improve neurological communication
Optimize neurospinal integrity
Improve structural balance
Restore healthier spinal biomechanics
Reduce abnormal muscular tension
Support the body’s ability to function more efficiently
The patient understood that care would focus on improving measurable neurological and structural findings while monitoring any functional changes she experienced throughout care.
Progress
The patient’s improvements occurred gradually over time.
She first noticed that her lower back discomfort became less severe.
Walking became easier.
Breathing felt less difficult.
She reported increased energy throughout the day.
Activities that had previously exhausted her became manageable once again.
One of the most remarkable changes occurred immediately following her first adjustment.
According to the patient, she completely stopped experiencing the daily vomiting that had affected her for twenty-three years.
As care continued, she also reported:
Improved endurance
Greater physical activity
Improved mood
Better mental clarity
Increased ability to care for herself
Greater independence with daily activities
She described being able to shop and still have enough energy afterward to complete household chores, something she previously could not accomplish.
Outcome
As corrective care continued, the patient reported significant improvements in multiple aspects of her health and daily function.
Most importantly, she stated that the daily vomiting she had experienced for more than two decades had completely resolved after beginning care.
She also reported:
Reduced lower back pain
Easier breathing
Improved walking tolerance
Increased energy
Improved emotional well-being
Improved ability to perform activities of daily living
In her own words:
“My life and my health has improved drastically since starting under Dr. Gandolfi’s care.”
Rather than simply describing less pain, the patient described regaining her life.
The Gandolfi Chiropractic Perspective
Patients rarely seek care because of only one symptom.
Chronic health challenges often affect every aspect of daily living, including independence, emotional well-being, physical activity, family relationships, and overall quality of life.
For that reason, our examinations focus on the integrity of the entire neurospinal system rather than a single complaint.
Healthy neurological communication depends on the ability of the brain, spinal cord, and nervous system to communicate efficiently with every part of the body. Our objective is to identify measurable neurospinal dysfunction and support healthier neurological function through appropriate chiropractic care.
This case represents the experience of a single patient.
The reported improvements reflect the patient’s own observations following chiropractic care and should not be interpreted to mean that chiropractic is a treatment for vomiting, asthma, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, or any other medical condition described in this report.
Every patient responds differently.
However, cases like this remind us why comprehensive neurological evaluation is so important.
Sometimes the greatest change isn’t simply that a symptom improves.
Sometimes it’s that a person who believed life would never change begins living again.
